Resignations




31st March 2016: Labour and the Greens issue their "Memorandum of Understanding" as a result of which they agree to work together in the lead up towards the 2017 General Election.


16 July 2017: Metiria Turei announces at the Greens AGM that she lied to Work and Income about her flatmates to prevent her benefit from being cut.


28 July: Jacinda Ardern on The Nation: "When you're lawmakers, you can't condone lawbreaking."


[1 August: Jacinda Ardern is made Labour's new head. Kelvin Davies is named as her Deputy. Andrew Little moves to 7th on the party list].


3 August: Metiria Turei announces she was registered to vote at an address that was different from that of her home. She registered from her fathers' address as she wished to vote for a friend running in the Mt Albert Electorate.


4 August: Jacinda Ardern announces she was not prepared to have Metiria Turei as Minister.



10 August: Metiria Turei announces her resignation from the Green Party. James Shaw is the sole leader of the Green Party in the Election.

Policies


National: Serious Youth Offender: National proposes lowering the age of accountability to the adult criminal justice systems to 14, by adding the Young Serious Offender Category. The sentencing options for a judge will include a Youth Academy or Training Camp. Police would have more powers to detain young serious offenders, and would be able to issue fines to parents of teenagers (under 14) outside their homes between midnight and 5 AM.

National: Mental Health Funding Boost: National announced a 100 Million dollar funding boost to supporting young peoples' mental health in schools. The funding was announced in the May budget, but was approved by cabinet last week.

Labour: Education Revamp: Labour announced their School Leavers Toolkit - a programme to give High School Students practical life skills before they leave the formal education system. The toolkit has been designed partly based on feedback from workplaces stipulating what kinds of skills they would like their future employees to have. The Toolkit will include teaching of: driving, practical budgeting, workplace skills and a civics education.
